Bury Beautiful World Reading and Rickshaws Workshop

Bury Beautiful World was back with an adventure of a lifetime!

On Sunday 15th of September, arc was delighted with a visit from Chris Dixon as he read ‘A Bury Good Story – Ride the Rickshaw.’

Children gathered to hear Chris tell the story of the journey of a Rickshaw as they travel around the landmarks of Bury St Edmunds.

All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Bury St Edmunds Rickshaw charity, which aims to promote community engagement and support local causes. The Bury St Edmunds Rickshaw are specially modified bikes used to transport the community around Bury and deliver goods to people with mobility issues and in self-isolation.

This reading and Rickshaw event allowed children to hear Chris Dixon reading his new book, to help them understand the incredible work the BSE Rickshaw do whilst engaging them in the wonderful attributes of Bury St Edmunds.

You can still grab your very own copy for £5 from the events team on the day and then exclusively from our Waterstones store after the event!

About Chris Dixon, the Author

Chris Dixon is an author from East Anglia who has written a children’s book, That’s Okay, exploring children’s mental health after personally experiencing bouts of anxiety and depression. Through therapy, Chris was helped to identify that he doesn’t really recognise emotions. It was difficult for him to identify whether he was upset or angry, happy or just okay, or why he felt certain ways. As a result, he taught himself how to recognise them, which has helped with his mental health.

After Chris joined us for our Bury Beautiful Workshops in 2023 with readings of his children’s book, That’s Okay, we approached Chris to see if he wanted to help us write a children’s book for our charity of the year, Bury St Edmunds Rickshaw, who fight social isolation right here in Bury St Edmunds.
